JUST ONE Tree has joined forces with our reforestation partner, the ITF (International Tree Foundation), as part of a “20 Million Trees for Kenya’s Forests” initiative, planting trees in and around Kenya's highland forests.
This large project run by ITF and spearheaded by MKT (Mount Kenya Trust) and other local partners, is in itself part of a wider strategy by the Kenyan Government to increase forest cover, restore degraded land, protect habitats and tackle climate change.

PROJECT FOCUS - NYAMBENE
The specific name of our first ever planting site was Kieiga Forest in Kenya,
which is located within the Nyambene Forest.

The sections in the foreground of these photos are degraded and deforested.
The dry brush is the invasive shrub that was cleared in preparation for planting.
Now over 3000 trees have been planted in this plot.

PROJECT FOCUS - PLANTING TREES IN SCHOOLS
Another of our favourite projects in Kenya, one close to our hearts, is our Kenyan Schools’ Project.
With the help of our on the ground partners ITF and Globe Gone Green, we’re bringing environmental education to life for children near Nairobi and Mount Kenya, by reforesting their school grounds and combatting climate change in the process.

The pupils watch and learn how the tree is planted, adopting the trees to care for them throughout their school life.
The project provides sustainable incomes for local community members, training for both teachers and pupils in planting and caring for the trees, an understanding of the local and global importance of protecting the environment and thus helping to prevent further deforestation.
And of course, each tree planted and nurtured by a pupil at these schools, is a tree absorbing carbon for us all.
